We had two trucks from Horton Trucking first in line when the Bunge river terminal elevator opened one morning a couple of years ago. This photo shows them unloading corn. Much of our corn is loaded onto barges and shipped down river, usually for export. This elevator is across from Hannibal, Missouri on the Mississippi River. now more is sent to ADM to be processed into corn syrup and ethanol

This shows another grain elevator on the Illinois River, the Consolidated Grain & Barge facility at Naples, IL. They buy grain that is mostly trucked in and they ship out mostly by barge but do some shipments by rail.

Surprisingly, halfway between the two big rivers is this fast growing United Feeds facility at Griggsville, IL. This grain elevator ships almost entirely by rail (mostly after harvest when rates are better). They have just completed an expansion of the rail siding to accomodate 50 car unit trains.
The largest bins hold 700,000 bushels each and the four slightly smaller ones hold 320,000 bushels each. They have a 1,000,000 bushels flat storage unit (the square concrete structure in the upper right hand corner of the photo).
