This photo was taken in early April, as we started planting our corn. This is the third year that we have used Aztec 4.67G insecticide by AMVAC. Aztec has proven to be a very good insecticide for us. The insecticide is distributed in a narrow 6 inch band directly over the corn seed to protect the tender seedlings. It is applied in such small amounts that special, very precise applicator units must be used. These are the white "Smart Boxes" shown directly behind the yellow seed boxes. They are made by Scienco, a division of Ingersoll-Dresser Pump Company.
We are very impressed with the quality of the "Smart Box" system. It includes an excellent controller that is connected with the tractor radar and automatically adjusts the amount of insecticide applied with any change of speed of the planter. The Aztec insecticide program seems to be a very good closed handling system.
