We use Pioneer Hi-Bred and Dekalb seedcorn and take many yield checks each year. Although the grain carts have scales, we do most of our yield checks with this smaller unit from our farm co-op for a more accurate result. In 2009 our highest checks ranged from 245 t0 255 bushels to the acre for corn and only a few yields that were over 70 bushels per acre for soybeans. We enjoyed excellent yields in some fields due primarily to plenty of soil moisture from a very wet summer which caused very poor yields on other fields...even to the extent that we could not plant 30 acres.
The farmland in this fertile river valley traditionally produce good crops. Thist year's (2009) corn yields were only average for us. We experienced field averages as high as 215 bushels per acre and an overall corn average of 181. Our 2009 soybean harvest was slightly above normal. Our best field yielded 68 bushels per acre with most yields at 60 to 64. We are eagerly looking forward to starting field operations for the 2010 crop year!
This shows us filling some of our grain bins. The two shorter ones are equiped with drying and stirring equipment. The taller bins hold 55,000 bushels each and have aeration fans only.
