This photo shows
us applying anhydrous ammonia to a field that we will plant to corn
this year. This is an economical way to apply nitrogen fertilizer for a
high yield. Nitrogen is a very common element in our environment (78% of
the atmosphere is nitrogen) and some is naturally applied each time it rains or
snows but not enough for modern farming.
We will plant 4350 acres of
corn and 1425 acres of soybeans in 2009. Corn planting starts the first week of April each year and soybean planting usually begins May 1.
The combine on the left has a grain platform that is 30 feet wide and the one on the right is 35 feet wide.
